Umno focused on wresting back seats from Bersatu, not Opposition MPs support

Umno is maintaining its focus on wresting back the seats it lost to Bersatu – PN in the 15th general election instead of Bersatu MPs who have thrown support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

We in Umno must not feel too comfortable with their (Bersatu MPs) support for the Prime Minister.

“Of course Umno and Barisan Nasional viewed the latest development as something good, but Umno will focus on wresting back the seats if we were to take the latest political development as the foundation for us in moving forward,” Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told a press conference after opening the Kedah Umno political bureau’s retreat here today.

Responding to another question he said that the support pledged by four MPs and Umno contesting the Kemaman by-election are separate matters.

The four are Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar); Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan); Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).

Zahid added that Umno believed it stood a good chance of recapturing the seats lost to Bersatu in the next general election since the candidates were runner-ups in the 15th general election.
