Israel-Hamas conflict: Bills that US is passing

The Hamas International Financing Prevention Act is not the only bill that the US is passing in view of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

For the record, the above bill imposes sanctions on foreign support for terrorist organisations including Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

There are four other bills too.

The bills lists most the attacks committed by Hizbollah in the past.

The SHIP Act otherwise known as the Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum Act empowers the President to impose visa and property blocking sanctions on individuals transporting, oricessing or dealing with petroleum and petroleum products from Iran.

An education bill was passed to condemn the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at institutions of higher education, which may lead to the creation of a hostile environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff.

It takes note of various vigils and demonstrations held by university students in the US that supported Hamas and the Palestinian cause.

Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024 seeks to provide $4,400,000,000 for Israel until Sept 30, 2025 for Israel’s defence budget.

This takes into account of the attack by Hamas on 7 October.
