Israel-Hamas truce ends this afternoon

The truce that has paused the Israeli-Hamas war in Gaza ends at 1.00pm (Malaysian time).

There are negotiations ongoing for a truce extension but no agreement has been reached.

The initial truce was meant to last four days during which time Hamas agreed to exchange hostages for prisoners. There was also an extension during which time much needed aid was sent.

Hamas had taken 240 captives during the attack it launched on October 7.

Israel has released 150 prisoners in three batches and Hamas, 69 women and children. The 69 includes 18 foreign nationals.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is determined to finish off Hamas even as the United States of America urged Netanyahu to minimise civilian casualties.
