Almost half of the air to ground bombs used by IDF are dumb bombs

About 40-45% of the 29,000 air-to-ground munitions Israel Defence Forces used are “dumb bombs” – unguided bombs, used in their war against Hamas in Gaza, according to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said CNN in an exclusive report.

The 29,000 unguided have been used on Gaza since October 7.

These unguided bombs are less precise and potential reason that contributed to the rising civilian death toll.

Despite the support that Israel receives from the US, President Joe Biden pointed out that their Middle East ally have engaged in indiscriminate bombing.

IDF however denied the usage of such munitions.

“Our war is against Hamas, not against the people of Gaza,” said Israeli spokesperson Major Keren Hajioff.

The indiscriminate bombing have thus far contributed to the growing rift between Israel and US.

This would also be a key issue raised when Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan begins a two-day trip to Israel today.

A US official told the American media that Israel can use dive bombing tactic to make their assaults more precise.

Dive bombing refers to the act of dropping a bomb while diving steeply in a fighter jet.

While the types of dumb bombs were not clearly identified, CNN further reported that the US too had provided them to Israel.

“The US has also provided Israel with unguided munitions, including 5,000 Mk82 bombs, a source familiar with recent weapons transfers told CNN, confirming a Wall Street Journal report.

“But the US also provides Israel with systems that can transform those dumb bombs into “smart” ones, including the Joint Direct Attack Munitions guidance system and the Spice Family Gliding Bomb Assemblies.”
