Sivaraj downplays calls for him to be next Dewan Negara President

Independent senator Datuk Sivaraj Chandran downplayed calls for him to be the next Dewan Negara President after a political analyst highlighted him as a viable candidate to fill the vacancy.

“It is upto the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Madani government to decide. All the senators are potential candidates,” said Sivaraj to Harapan Daily.

Earlier today, Sinar Harian quoted Universiti Malaya based political scientist Dr Mohammad Tawfik Yaakub as stating that Sivaraj is the most potential candidate to be next president.

Talks in town is Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar had submitted his resignation to take up the position as Sarawak governor since incumbent Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s term ends next month.

Sivaraj is a former MIC Youth chief who quit the BN component party last year.
