Two Congresswoman oppose bill barring participants of Oct 7 entry into US

Only two US Congress members voted against a bill at the US House of Representatives.

The bill is meant to bar entry to members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Palestine Liberation Organisation and others who had participated in the attacks against Israel on October 7, 2023.

The two are Democrats – Cori Bush (Missouri) and Rashida Tlaib (Michigan).

Tlaib who is the sole Palestinian American representative dubbed the bill as a “bill being used to incite anti-Arab, anti-Palestinian and anto – Muslim hatred that makes communities like ours unsafe.”

She added the bill is also redundant since entry to those who have participated in terrorism such as Islamic Jihad and Hamas are already prohibited.

This bill is among four immigration measures up for vote.Tlaib also opposed several other bills.

Among them was one which had provisions to allow social security fraud as a reason for exclusion and deportation.
