Celebrating holidays of different races and cultures helps curb extremism, racism

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said celebrating holidays of different races and cultures would help in curbing extremism and racism.

“Different ethnic groups of Malaysia have celebrated holidays together, and we need to continue to do so, we cannot allow religious extremism and racism to appear and destroy racial harmony within our country,” he said during yesterday’s Tanjung Piandang Chinese New Year celebration, China Press reported.

“The existence of different holidays allows the children to understand and learn from different cultures.

“Such practices needs to be protected as it is good for our country,” he added.

He added that Malaysia’s multiracial society also helps in bringing foreign investment, with the majority coming from China.
