Govt will review police salary scheme, alongside civil service

The government would review salary scheme for the police, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah along with salary structure of the civil service.

He admitted that the salary and allowances given to police personnel are still low and insufficient, especially for those in urban cities.

“The government alongside the ministry are currently conductiing a study on the salary structure for civil servants, including for police personnel, including cost of living allowances.

“We realise that the rate is low compared to the rising cost of living, especially in major cities such as Kuala Lumpur.

“The allowance is provided based on their location ranging from RM200 to RM350 on a monthly basis.

Shamsul said this in response to a question from Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) who enquired on plans to increase the salary scale for the police force.

He also explained that at present police personnel receiving salary, fixed allowances and other related allowance amounting to above RM1,500 which is the threshold for minimum salary.

“They also receive a fixed housing allowance of RM300, a fixed public service allowance (RM115), a cost of living allowance of RM350, a service incentive payment (RM200) with a gross salary of RM2,404.”

As of 31 Jan, they also receive technical incentive payments ranging from RM100 to RM300, licensed ship maintenance allowance of RM1,050, pilot incentive payments ranging from RM2,000 to RM4,000, and general operations team incentive payments.
