Luxury BMW X6 seized: Owner skipped road tax for 7 years

A shocking truth was revealed when a BMW X6 was intercepted yesterday morning by the Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) during the Aidilfitri Day Operation (HRA) 2024.

Turned out that not only the road tax for this luxury car was not paid for 7 years, but it was also not insured.

“The owner is a 59-year-old male. The reason for not renewing the road tax is short-distance driving, and when purchasing the car, there was no change of ownership,” said JPJ director Azrin Borhan yesterday morning, reported China Press Daily.

Initial investigation found that the man had just returned from buying goods at a shop in Kapar, Klang nearby, Azrin said, reported Kosmo Daily.

The vehicle has been seized under Section 64(1) and taken to the JPJ Shah Alam.

According to Azrin, if a car is not covered by valid insurance, it would be in violation of Section 90 of the Road Transport Act 1987. Upon conviction, the offender could face a fine not exceeding RM 1,000 or imprisonment for up to 3 months or both.

He urged the public to report any traffic violations by emailing aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my or lodging complaints through the e-complaint application platform to the Road Transport Department.

Netizens thought that the fine of RM 1,000 isn’t enough.

“A mere RM1000 fine? That’s a walk in the park for him… Paying for that BMW XR is more than 1K… just peanuts…

“He should be fined 700 thousand, or 7 million, then he’ll feel it!” A Facebook user named Misi Bravo Jengjengjeng said.
