Zaid Ibrahim erred, overlooked Chegu Bard’s offence

Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim erred big time as he attempted to defend Negeri Sembilan Bersatu information chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin who has been arrested.

For a famous lawyer who was a law minister, things like this cannot be overlooked. But, overlooked he did.

Zaid overlooked the fact that Chegu Bard had implicated the Agong, Sultan Ibrahim who is also the King as having stakes in the alleged Forest City casino project. Others implicated include Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

This morning Zaid questioned the need for the police to arrest the Negeri Sembilan Bersatu information chief over a post on Facebook where he quoted Bloomberg and Singapore media on reports claiming that a casino would be established in Forest City,Johor.

“Why is he being investigated for sedition and the (Communication and) Multimedia Act? Ridiculous.

“And that is not enough. They had to remand him. Why remand and put him in custody when the police could quickly proceed with the investigation and allow CheBard his freedom, which he is entitled to?

“Chegu Bard has never failed to cooperate with the police on countless investigations on him.”

One must remember that one cannot bring disrepute to the Malay Rulers and this is exactly what Chegu Bard did.

Hence there is a need to charge Chegu Bard under sedition.

Mind you, amendments to include 3 R issues are already underway.

It has got nothing to do with silencing critics of Anwar but everything to do with defending the neutrality of the Malay Rulers.

Anwar has denied allegations that a casino would be built.
