Penang awaits Perak water

Penang is awaiting for Perak’s response over water transfer scheme from Sungai Perak to the island state.

In November, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow had dismissed the need for water treatment plants since Penang would be getting treated water from Perak.

Speaking on the progress on the water transfer scheme, Chow said Perak needs to submit its applocation to start the transfer as soon as possible.

“Until then, we can only wait,” he said, the New Straits Times reported.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad had announced in November that the state would sell treated water to Penang.

Negotiations for the implementation of Sungai Perak Raw Water Transfer Scheme had previously dragged on for 12 years.
