Swimming team needs a bigger swimming pool, says Hannah Yeoh

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced that a group of young swimmers from Cameron Highlands need a new swimming pool.

Some of them had represented Pahang at the national level.

“These children have been winning medals in swimming but they do not have a proper swimming pool to practise for competitive swimming,” Yeoh said on her Facebook page.

They can only practise at Strawberry Park Resort, Brinchang, Cameron Highlands, Pahang.

“Thanks to Strawberry Park Resort for offering their indoor pool (only 15m long) to these young ones to train for free.

“They have to swim in multiple loops (FYI, Olympic-sized pools measure 50 metres long),” she said.

In the same Facebook post, she revealed that one of them travels daily to Ipoh to train after school.

A few days ago she went up to Cameron Highlands to meet these swimmers together with Cameron Highlands MP Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor.

“For Cameron Highlands, I will work closely with their Member of Parliament @ramli.mohdnor to identify suitable lands for a bigger pool,” Yeoh said.

“Malaysia needs to excel in swimming again,” she said.

“I want to see our talent pool grow,” she also mentioned in the post.

She claimed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has been rolling out free swimming lessons for children from deserving families.

She also mentioned that priorities in Putrajaya must match the reality on the ground in various districts.

“We have so much work cut out for us but I am determined to improve things for these youngsters,” Yeoh said.
