Lim slaps RM5 million defamation suit on Zuraida over unfounded claims

National DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng who is also Bagan MP is claiming RM5,000,000.00 in damages for defamation from former minister Zuraida Kamaruddin over an article published in pro Perikatan Nasional site, Malaysia Now dated on May 10.

Zuraida claimed that Lim had twice rejected the application from Housing and Local Government Ministry to initiate a housing project for former estate workers in Bestari Jaya.

Zuraida made the claim in reaction to current Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming’s announcement that over 200 PPR units would be made available for the former estate workers.

Aside from the RM5 million, Lim through his lawyer, Datuk Sankara N Nair wants an immediate and unequivocal retraction, unconditional and irrevocable apology and a written undertaking not to repeat any further allegations.

Zuraida had claimed that she had to ask for budget from Lim who was Finance Minister in the Pakatan Harapan.

Zuraida was the Housing and Local Government Minister.

She claimed that Lim disagreed the issue was a priority and disagreed to the suggestion of including into the budget for the year 2019.

Sankara stated that the above were defamatory and slanderous against Lim as it gave the impression that Lim is a racist and inciting racial conflicts, disrupting harmony, stirring up tensions between races, not caring, unsympathetic and unfit to be a people’s representative.

Lim’s former political secretary Tony Pua has denied that such application was made by Zuraida when she was in the cabinet.
