Agriculture minister: Rice distribution going well across country

The Agriculture and Food Security Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, said that the distribution of 140,000 metric tonnes of rice across the country is going well.

“Despite some shortages, the matter has been managed well, ” said Mohamad, reported Bernama.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Veterinary Development Convention and Innovation Day held at University Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang.

Mohamad stated that producers, with the help of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, have successfully addressed rice shortages, resulting in 140,000 metric tonnes of rice being available in the market.

He highlighted fewer complaints as progress and stated that the country can reach an 80% self-sufficiency rate target based on current achievements.

“However, the food supply issues, especially rice, need to be addressed properly, otherwise the country will face the same problems again and might struggle to achieve at least 80 per cent of the SSR to meet domestic demands,” said Mohamad.
