Iran’s presidential election next month

Iran is set to conduct its presidential election on 28 June .

Registration of candidates would take place from 30 May to 3 June and the campaign period is scheduled from 12 to 27 June, reported Islamic Republic News Agency.

Article 131 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran mandates the formation of a council to manage the executive affairs of the country for a period of 50 days and prepare for the presidential elections.

The presidential election is held following President Ebrahim Raisi’s death in a helicopter crash on 19 May.

IRNA reported that a funeral procession would be held today during which the people of Tabriz will bid farewell to the president and carry his body to Tabriz airport.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will offer prayers for the president’s body tomorrow, and Raisi will be laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad a day later, the report added.
