Students arrested for Ulu Tiram attack released

Johor Police has confirmed that two individuals connected to the Ulu Tiram police station attack on May 17, 2024, were released without bail, said Johor police chief M. Kumar.

Last week, two students from higher learning institutions were apprehended concerning the assault on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor.

They were released on May 21, 2024, following instructions from the Attorney General’s Office, Putrajaya.

“The two individuals, a 22-year-old Malay male who was a student at a private college, and a 21-year-old Malay male who was also a student at a training institution, were arrested on May 17, 2024, for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said.

He said that the investigation into five other family members continued, as their remand period ended on May 24, 2024.

Kumar advised the public not to speculate or manipulate facts regarding the incident.

“The public was advised not to speculate, manipulate facts, or make any comments on social media regarding this incident that could disrupt public peace and interfere with the investigation,” he said.

On May 17, an attack at a police station in Ulu Tiram, Johor, resulted in the death of two officers and injury to another.

According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the suspect acted independently and had no connections to any terrorist organizations.
