DAP Wanita launches HerLead to boost female participation in politics, leadership

DAP Wanita today launched HerLead, a one-year education program designed to not only involve more women in politics but also to prepare them for leadership roles.

DAP Wanita chief Teo Nie Ching said the program aims to expand DAP’s candidate pool for upcoming elections, offering increased opportunities for women in national and state constituencies.

“The objective of this programme is to build a talent pool for our party. Unlike conventional methods, this systematic approach ensures that when election times come, we have a well-prepared group of women leaders to choose from,” she said.

She said they want to train more such candidates to ensure DAP remains a top choice for women in politics.

HerLead is an innovative program designed to equip women in the party with the skills and knowledge to become influential political leaders.

“It is a political education programme that highlights a comprehensive approach, combining educational modules with specially informed mentorship programmes within the established one-year period, ensuring that participants not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also adapt to the strengths and aspirations of each individual,” Teo said at a press conference held at the DAP headquarters today.

Teo added that the initiative offers a systematic platform for women aspiring to enter politics, providing valuable training and opportunities to contribute to the country’s political landscape.

Application is open to all DAP Wanita members who aspire to be political leaders.

“And if we receive more than 30 applications, we will conduct selection and interview sessions to participate in the training programme and choose eight candidates who we think have the potential.

“So these eight identified candidates will have programmes set up for them every month,” she added.

The selection will be done on June 22 and 23 at the Gardens Hotel.

Interested applicants can apply from today onwards by filling out a Google form accessible on all of DAP’s social media platforms.
