‘Hindus in Malaysia are peaceful’

The singing of the Skanda Sashti Kavasam in Batu Caves yesterday was meant to show that Hindus in Malaysia are a peaceful group of people.

“I organise it to show that Hindus in Malaysia are a peaceful group of people who want to practice their faith.

“It was only meant to tell the rest of the world that this place is also a place of worship for the Hindus aside from being a tourist attraction spot,” said Swashna Subramaniam.

She said this in response to the question on what was the next course of action that would be taken.

The event held yesterday is the brainchild of Swashna, A Rajeswary along with volunteers from the Hindu Volunteers Movement.

It was held against the backdrop of the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple being in the limelight for the wrong reasons.

Case in point is the case of Moroccan influencer Abdellatif Ouisa who recited verses from the Quran that called for the demolition of idols at the temple.

Global Human Rights Federation chairman S Shashi Kumar too pointed out there were two other individuals who emulated Ouisa.

Meanwhile on TikTok, Muslim convert preachers are clashing with the Hindus over certain issues that have become a point of contention.

On a related issue, Swashna told Harapan Daily that the official turnout for the singing of Skanda Sashti Kavasam is 1,000 and not as previously published.
