Urimai mulls over Sungai Bakap

Urimai – the party led by former DAP man P Ramasamy that vouched for Dr Amar Pritpal of PKR to contest in Sungai Bakap is mulling over their prospects to contest there as well.

Urimai’s pro-tem secretary general Satees Muniandy said his party would be meeting soon to determine whether they would make their debut in Sungai Bakap.

Satees said that the demographics in Sg Bakap is similar to KKB, so Urimai can play a role, especially in wooing Indians, in view that the community now lacks refined and strong leadership.

“Our messaging is clear that the community needs a voice of strong representation. We are not in politics to make up the numbers but to provide an alternative to the old politics which have led the country down in more ways than one,” said Satees, reported The Malaysian Insight.

Satees who is the former Bagan Dalam assemblyman reiterated the party’s decision to vouch for Dr Amar Pritpal Abdullah of PKR for now.

Harapan Daily previously reported Urimai backing Amar Pritpal.

The by-election in Sungai Bakap is being called following the death of its assemblyman, Nor Zamri Latiff on May 14.

Nor Zamri had defeated PKR’s state Wanita chief Nurhidayah Che Rose in a straight fight in the state polls last year.

Amar who is also Nibong Tebal PKR division chief and Nurhidayah are among the five hopefuls to contest in the Sungai Bakap by-election.
