Anwar Ibrahim congratulates Modi on third consecutive victory

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended heartfelt congratulations to Indian Narendra Modi on his consecutive victory for a third term with his coalition in the recently concluded Indian general elections.

Anwar praised India’s impressive democratic process.

“The democratic process and practice in India are indeed impressive, as more than 642 million citizens exercised their right to vote since April 19,” he said.

“Modi has also made significant strides in improving India’s economy, which has undoubtedly enhanced the well-being of its citizens and benefited the region,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Modi to enhance bilateral relations between Malaysia and India.

“I am ready to continue working with him as we forge a new era of friendship between Malaysia and India,” he said.

Modi’s triumphant declaration of election victory yesterday cements his third consecutive term, etching a historic milestone as the first Indian prime minister in over six decades to achieve such a feat.

Despite securing 240 seats, falling short of the 272-majority mark in the Lok Sabha, India’s lower house of Parliament with 543 seats, Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) still clinched a majority by winning 283 seats, aided by its allies.
