INC wants Rahul Gandhi as opposition leader

Indian National Congress (INC)that leads the federal opposition – Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (Indi Alliance) wants Rahul Gandhi to be the opposition leader in the Lok Sabha.

This growing clamour has become louder following the election result that saw INC and its allies winning 232 seats to BJP and its National Democratic Alliance that won 293 seats out of 543 seats.

INC failed to clinch the top opposition position as it failed to get the numbers in the 2014 and 2019 general election.

Party president Mallikarjun Kharge served as the party leader in 2014 and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury took over in 2019.

INC wanted Gandhi as the opposition leader in 2014 but he refused to accede to their demands.

The positive result for INC this time around and the fact that Gandhi has been the political front for the opposition makes him the natural choice.

Gandhi is the de facto leader of INC but is not heading his party is also seen as a reason for him to go for the top position in the Lok Sabha.
