Meta, MCMC to join hands on online safety practices
Facebook’s parent company, Meta would be collaborating with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission to raise awareness on online safety practices, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
“Meta agreed to collaborate with MCMC and other partners to implement a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about online safety practices, including the Online Safety for Children and Families Campaign which will be launched soon,” he said via a Facebook post today.
He also revealed the commitment given by the social media giant company to Putrajaya.
Fahmi had attended a briefing yesterday by Meta as a follow up to his meeting with them in April.
“I was given a follow-up briefing yesterday on the current efforts and improvements made to enhance online safety for users in Malaysia.
“These aspects include age verification for children under 13 years old and the monitoring of harmful content such as online gambling, scams, fake news, and 3R (Race, Religion, Royalty).
“The enhanced efforts by Meta to mitigate harmful content and protect users’ online safety is encouraging. I expect this level of commitment to continue.”
