Food security need to be advanced first before future foods, said Dr Dzulkefly
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad called for more thorough studies to ensure food quality and safety before advancing the plant industry ecosystem and future foods.
“The development of the plant industry ecosystem and future foods such as cultured meat, cultured meat products, and cell-based foods must be preceded by comprehensive studies to ensure food quality and safety,” he said via a Facebook post.
He added that when assuming office at the end of 2022, Prime Minister Datuk’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim prioritized food security for the nation’s safety.
“Since then, all relevant ministries have intensified efforts to diversify input and output sources. This includes adopting new practices and technologies, as well as developing plant factories to support the growth of agricultural technology industries and sustainable food production,” he said.
He gave the assurance the Ministry of Health (MOH) will continue to support current developments.
“Our efforts to ensure that the people receive clean, pure, halal, and wholesome food can only be achieved if our health and well-being are ensured,” he added.
