Industry players assured government of sufficient egg supply nationwide

The government has guaranteed that there is sufficient chicken eggs supply with assurance from the industry players prior to announcing the 3 sen decrease for Grade A, B and C eggs.

“We had an engagement session with the industry players and was guaranteed that there is sufficient egg supply throughout the country before the announcement was made,” said Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Fuziah Salleh.

“That’s the promise by the industry to the government.”

She said this in response to Bumiputera Retailers Association president Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin who said that the government should increase the supply of subsidized chicken eggs supply instead of decreasing the price.

Fuziah added that the chicken egg production have reached its self sufficient level.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced a 3 sen reduction in grade A,B and C chicken eggs as a measure to return the savings derived from targeted subsidies to the people.
