Motion to refer Wan Saiful to the rights and privileges committee over claims against PM
Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Azalina Othman Said would be moving a motion to refer Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (PN-Tasek Gelugor) to the Rights and Privileges Committee.
This is the first motion of the government when the Dewan Rakyat convenes on Monday.
The motion is listed in the Order Paper.
The motion was filed over Wan Saiful’s claim that the corruption charges in court against the Bersatu leader would be dropped if he declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar during the Dewan Rakyat session on February 28 and March 21.
The claim is meant to mislead the Dewan Rakyat and Wan Saiful’s remarks “could be construed as detrimental to the interests of the parties in the case”.
On March 22, Tanjong Karang MP Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi submitted a motion to refer Wan Saiful to the committee after he claimed in the Dewan Rakyat that Zulkafperi and Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim attempted to persuade him to support Anwar.
Zulkafperi said Wan Saiful’s claim was a “malicious attempt” to mislead the house.
