Pas to join federal government bloc?
Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil neither confirmed nor denied rumours about Pas joining the ruling federal government.
He did say that there are many discussions ongoing between the federal government and Pas since the party heads four state governments.
“Indeed there are a lot of discussions.
“We can see how discussions between the menteris besar from Pas, for example discussing with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, discussions among Parliament members with the prime minister,” he told reporters outside the Sungai Bakap by-election nomination centre, Malaysiakini reported.
Rumours of Pas leaving the opposition alliance surfaced in October 2023 when Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang dismissing the notion altogether in response to Anwar’s remark that the door for Pas to joining the ruling federal coalition is always open.
On another note Fahmi also denied vehemently allegations that the government is using its machinery in the Sungai Bakap by-election.
“This is a wild allegation, (because) first of all the campaign period just started today.
“As the nomination process ended just now, so the instructions from the prime minister towards the ministers and the (Penang) government is to be careful so that we don’t abuse government machinery for the election campaign,” he said.
Mohd Hafez Sabri (PN-Manjoi) made the allegation.
