549 porn sites, 309 porn content, 29 social media content removed

The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission has blocked a total of 549 pornographic websites and one lewd site in the first half of this year, revealed deputy minister of communications, Teo Nie Ching.

She said this in response to the a question from Nordin Ahmad Ismail (PN-Lumut) who asked on the action taken on pornographic images and videos that are published on social media sites such as Facebook and Telegram that are used mainly to promote sex aphrodisiacs and products.

MCMC also has taken proactive measures to bring down such contents with the cooperation of social media platforms such as Tumblr, X, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok and other platforms.

“In the same period, a total of 308 pornographic content and 29 social media content were removed by the platform providers based on applications that were sent.

“As for advertising misleading food products and sales of unregistered medicine, MCMC is cooperating with the Health Ministry to remove the content and block the websites,” she said.

Teo added the requests are accepted based on the offences under the jurisdiction of the Health Ministry.
