Replicate China’s success through smart automation, AI

Malaysia and ASEAN can replicate China’s past 20 years of development success through smart automation and artificial intelligence (AI), said Deputy Minister of Investment Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong.

He hopes that Malaysia and ASEAN countries can emulate China’s success in increasing the middle-class population through smart automation over the next 10 to 15 years.

He said Malaysia has attracted many businesses originally based in Singapore, which have now expanded their investments to Malaysia.

“I hope to start from Malaysia and extend to other ASEAN countries, so that Malaysia and ASEAN countries can embark on automation in the next 10 to 15 years, and even follow China’s path in the process of middle-class development.

“When China joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, the middle class consisted of approximately 100 million people. Currently, it has grown to 400 million people,” he said, reported Nanyang Daily.

He said this at the China media outlet Yicai special forum titled “Lighthouse Manufacturer Leads the Way” during the 15th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions.

The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the “Summer Davos Forum,” was held in Dalian, China from June 25 to 27, 2024.
