26,058 Malaysian Indian students in public universities
Malaysian Indian students make up 26,058 out of the total number of students in public universities which stands at 545,244 students last year, revealed Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.
“The breakdown of Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera is 472,794 to 72,450. The Indian students make up 26,058 out of the non-Bumiputera students in public university in 2023,” said Zambry based on High Education Ministry’s MyMoheS system.
He said this in his written reply to R Yuneswaran (PH-Segamat).
Yuneswaran asked for the number of students in both public and private universities based on racial composition. He also asked specifically for the number of Indian students in both public and private universities.
“Based on e-IPTS system, the total number of Malaysians in private universities are 306,886,” Zambry said.
“For the year 2023, there are 144,620 Bumiputera students and 162,266 non-Bumiputera students.
“Out of the total number of non-Bumiputera students, there are 40,805 Indian students in private universities in 2023.”
