Majority of private university students in Malaysia are from China

Based on e-IPTS system, there are a total of 56 private universities registered under the Private Higher Learning Institute Act 1996 with 48,511 students. The majority of the foreign students private universities are from China.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir revealed the above in his written reply to Onn Abu Bakar (BN-Batu Pahat).

Onn had asked for the number of registered private universities, number of foreign students and the origin country of students who make up the most number of registered students.

“Based on the information from Home Ministry, until March 31 this year, there are 54 private universities and 18 branch campuses that have obtained approval to to accept international students,” he said.
