Child grooming: 12 investigated, 31 charged in court since July 2017
A total of 12 child grooming cases was investigated under section 12 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (SOAC) and five more are still being investigated by the police for the period beginning from July 2017 until 2023, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
This was based on statistics by the Royal Malaysian Police.
As for the prosecution over the same period of time. there were 31 cases where the suspects were charged in court. Out of this 22 cases were completed and nine are still on trial, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this in response to a question from Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH-Bukit Bendera) who asked about child grooming.
Pahang recorded the highest number of cases prosecuted in court at eight. The second spot is shared by two states – Kelantan and Sarawak, with five cases each.
There were no prosecuted cases in seven states – Johor, Kedah, Perak, Perlis, Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.
