Government accepts Sungai Bakap by-election results, says Anwar
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the unity government respected and accepted the Pakatan Harapan candidate’s defeat in yesterday’s Sungai Bakap state by-election.
He also said the government acknowledges the Sungai Bakap constituents’ decision.
“The Madani government acknowledges this decision with renewed determination to intensify efforts to champion the people’s struggle and successfully realize the agenda of elevating the dignity and status of the people and the nation,” he said via a Facebook post, reported FMT.
He said that with a strong foundation and commitment, the unity government will persist in enhancing unity through the implementation of policies and initiatives that align with the evolving realities and shifts in the country.
Yesterday, Perikatan Nasional secured victory in the Sungai Bakap state seat as their candidate, Abidin Ismail, won with a substantial majority of 4,267 votes over PH candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin.
The by-election was prompted by the passing of Pas assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff, who also served as the Nibong Tebal Pas division chief.
His death on May 24 was due to stomach inflammation.
