Only 15,103 Chinese applied for TVET programs, says Sim
Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said only 15,103 Chinese have applied to enter Technical and Vocal Education Training (TVET) programs.
“Referring to the statistics of TVET program applications through the UPUOnline system for the years 2020-2023, a total of 306,380 applications have been submitted,” he said.
“These applications are limited to programs offered by public TVET institutions under the Ministry of Human Resources, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
“Of this total, 254,478 (83 percent) were applicants from the Bumiputera community, 15,103 (5 percent) were applicants from the Chinese community, 30,033 (10 percent) were applicants from the Indian community, and 6,766 (2 percent) were applicants from other communities,” he said, in a parliamentary written reply.
He was responding to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng (BN-Tg Piai) who requested to know the statistics on applications for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs, including a breakdown by race and course from 2020 to the present.
