RM100 million allocated for Chinese New Villages development

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said RM100 million had been earmarked for the development of Chinese New Villages, and four development projects totalling RM780,200 have been approved for implementation in Chinese New Villages within the Maran.

“A total allocation of RM100 million has been earmarked for the development of Chinese New Villages.

“To date, the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) has approved an allocation of RM7 million for 2024, which has been distributed to the state of Pahang.

“Additionally, four development projects totalling RM780,200 have been approved for implementation in Chinese New Villages within the Maran parliamentary constituency, specifically in Kampung Sungai Jerik and Kampung Sri Jaya,” he said in a parliamentary written reply.

He was responding to Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Abd Muttalib (PN-Maran) who wanted to know the amount of allocation that has been and will be channelled to 163 Chinese New Villages in the country, particularly in the state of Pahang, including the Maran constituency.

The issues of Chinese New Villages have been put under the spotlight recently due to suggestions for the villages to be listed as a UN heritage site.
