Red tag on water metre not phishing scam, confirms Air Selangor

Air Selangor dispelled rumours about a phishing scam involving red tags and QR codes.

Recently, photos have been circulating showing red tags with the Air Selangor logo and a QR code attached to water supply pipes, prompting concerns about a potential scam. Air Selangor clarified that these claims are false.

“Following the incident involving the viral water supply disconnection notice labels on social media, Air Selangor wishes to inform you that these notice labels are used by us for customers with outstanding bills,” Air Selangor said via a statement.

Air Selangor advises customers who don’t have outstanding bills but still received these tagged notices to contact them through the 15300 hotline number, the Air Selangor app, or the Help Centre on their website at www.airselangor.com.

“For customers who do not have outstanding bills but have received the notice labels, please contact Air Selangor at 15300 or make inquiries at the Help Centre available through www.airselangor.com and the Air Selangor app,” Air Selangor said.

Air Selangor has utilised these tags for at least three years.

Air Selangor would place them near water metres when they want to terminate the water supply to the premises.

According to NST, Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said, that checks conducted using the Commercial Crime Intelligent System (CCIS) and Integrated Police Reporting System (IPRS) revealed no filed reports concerning the alleged use of Air Selangor QR Code for scam operations.
