Reopen TBH case, probe it under s302, says Raub MP

Raub MP Chow Yu Hui has submitted an urgent motion to Parliament today, urging the government to expedite the investigation into the case of Teoh Beng Hock and apprehend those responsible for his death.

He stated that 15 years ago today, Teoh Beng Hock passed away at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) old headquarters in Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam.

“The purpose of presenting the urgent motion today is to urge the government and the police to heed the demands of the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement (TBH-ADA) and the public, and also to reopen the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code (murder), uncover the truth, arrest the real culprits, and bring them to court,” he said, Sin Chew Daily reported.

He said this at a press conference held in the Parliament media room today.

He said that he had repeatedly raised this issue in Parliament, but the responses during the Minister’s Question Time on March 20 last year and July 2 this year were identical and showed no progress.

“In 2014, the Court of Appeal ruled that Teoh Beng Hock’s death was caused by ‘one or more MACC officers’, and also instructed the police to reopen the investigation,” he said.

He added that the Attorney-General Chambers (AGC) had returned the investigation to the police on January 6 last year, requesting a more in-depth investigation.

Chow stated that during yesterday’s “Justice for Beng Hock” march, the protestor was halted by police 100 meters from the Parliament gates. The incident led to Teoh Beng Hock’s sister, Teoh Lee Lan, being pushed to the ground in the scuffle, while Universiti Malaya Association of New Youth (Umany) former chairman Liau Pin Chun sustained injuries.

“In light of the conflict incident in front of Parliament yesterday, I have also submitted a second urgent motion, requesting that Parliament allow NGOs, civil society, and the public to enter the Parliament grounds to present memorandums, demonstrating that Parliament stands with the people and embodies the spirit of the People’s Parliament,” he said.

He stated that the motion has been submitted to the Speaker’s office and is now awaiting approval.
