7,727 sexual crime cases against children since 2018

The police have opened investigation papers on 7,727 sexual crime cases against children since 2018 until May 2024.

Of this number, 1,954 are under investigation, 1,550 no further action and 4,223 were charged in court, Dewan Rakyat was told.

The number of cases registered in court since 2018 until 2023 is 14,042 cases. The year 2021 recorded the highest number of cases charged in court at 2,832.

This was revealed by Minister of Law and Institutional Reform Datuk Azalina Othman Said in her written reply to Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH-Bukit Bendera).
