National suicide registry (NSFIRM) to be completed next year
The development of the National Suicide and Fatal Injury Registry (NSFIRM) that was announced under the 12th Malaysia Plan with an allocation of RM4 million is currently being carried out in the physical work implementation stage, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
“It involved the setting up of network switch and cabling in 136 government hospital facilities and system development is progressing on schedule. The system would be completed early next year,” said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad in a written reply to Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH-Bandar Tun Razak.
“As for deaths due to suicide in the past five years from 2019 to 2023, a total of 4450 suicide cases were recorded.”
The breakdown of suicide cases according to the year are as follows:
609 cases in 2019
631 cases in 2020
1,142 cases in 2021
981 cases in 2022
1,087 cases in 2023.
