DAPSY slams Selangor Pas Youth over beer company sponsorship

DAPSY National Varsity Affairs Bureau director Ho Chi Yang slammed Selangor Pas Youth for condemning AMANAH Wanita chief, Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu’s participation in a school charity event sponsored by Tiger Beer.

“The fundraising event, now in its 30th year, has raised substantial funds for Chinese primary schools across Malaysia, improving their facilities and providing a better learning environment for countless students.

“The aim of the dinner was solely to support education and demonstrate community solidarity.

“The Pas’s sudden attack politicises this and treats Chinese education as a bargaining chip,” Ho said, via a Facebook post.

He added that drinking is a personal choice and that Pas must respect the lifestyles of non-Muslims and the Chinese community.

“Their unfounded claims that accepting donations from a beer company would lead to alcohol normalization in schools not only harms the fundraising efforts but also tarnishes the image of Chinese schools among Muslims,” he said.

He stressed that as long as the funding source is legal, there should be no issue.

He said Pas should not impose its narrow views and religious agenda on others, and Chinese education should not be judged by the Pas standards.

He further said that industries like gambling and alcohol contribute significantly to national revenue and that major companies actively engage in corporate social responsibility.

According to Pas’s logic, these industries should avoid participating in any public welfare projects to prevent tainting them, he added.

He urged the Selangor Pas Youth to apologise for their baseless accusations and reflect on their disrespect towards non-Muslim communities.

A controversy recently erupted when a photo went viral surfaced showing Aiman at a school charity event sponsored by Tiger Beer.

The event was held on July 19 and took place at SJK(C) Tche Min in Sungai Pelek, Sepang.

Following the event, Selangor Pas Youth chief Sukri Omar said Tiger Beer’s involvement in the charity event tainted it, equating the situation to normalising alcohol in schools.
