No new suspects in Albertine Leo Jia Hui case, says OCPD

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said that there have been no new suspects related to the disappearance of Albertine Leo Jia Hui.

He said that, aside from the five suspects already detained, no additional arrests had been made as of noon on Wednesday, July 24.

“No new arrests. Thank you,” he said.

When questioned about the motive behind the alleged kidnapping and any connection between the five arrested suspects and the six-year-old victim’s mother, he stated that the investigation was still ongoing.

“We hope for some space to conduct the investigations.

“Answers will be given once the investigations are concluded,” he said, reported The Star.

The girl disappeared during an event at Eco Galleria, Iskandar Puteri, on the evening of Saturday, July 20.

Her 37-year-old mother was operating a booth at the crowded event.

On July 22, police arrested four suspects, including two men and two women aged 28 to 55, in Iskandar Puteri and Johor Bahru.

On July 23, Albertine was located unharmed at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor, roughly 370 kilometres from her last known location.

During a raid, police also apprehended a 31-year-old man found in the same budget hotel room as Albertine.

The case was examined under Section 365 of the Penal Code and under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Section 365 of the Penal Code criminalise kidnapping with the intent to unlawfully confine someone, while Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 deals with non-consensual physical contact with a child.
