Come clean on unjust policy, says Kepong MP
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng urged former MCA members who previously held government deputy and ministerial positions to clarify whether they have introduced any other unjust policies or guidelines, aside from the education fundraising guidelines.
“MCA’s former ministers and deputy ministers must come clean about whether any other unjust policies, laws, or guidelines detrimental to the public, especially to the Chinese community and Chinese education, were enacted during their time in power.
“If there were, MCA must list them all and come clean.
“We do not want to see similar events like the ban on beer sponsorships for educational charities causing panic in the Chinese community again,” he said, reported Sin Chew Daily.
He said the controversy was instigated by the Pas, yet MCA President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has only targeted the DAP and refrained from criticising the Pas.
“What is the rationale behind this?
“Does it mean that MCA had signed a statutory declaration (SD) to support PN and Pas?” he questioned.
A controversy erupted after a photo went viral showing Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu at a school charity event sponsored by Tiger Beer.
The event was held at SJK(C) Tche Min in Sungai Pelek, Sepang.
In response, the Education Ministry issued a reminder on July 22 for educational institutions to follow existing guidelines on organising programs and accepting donations.
On July 23, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that schools must adhere to these guidelines, which prohibit donations from sources such as gambling, tobacco, drugs, and alcohol to protect students’ intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being.
Seremban MP Anthony Loke has consulted the Cabinet regarding a potential revision of the guideline that bans donations from tobacco and alcohol sales yesterday.
No official announcement has been made yet.
In a related development, Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee Chuan How revealed that the directive against brewery companies was introduced when MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon held the deputy education minister position from 2015 to 2018.
