Investments offered via Telegram are scams, says CCID director
The Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, said that investments promoted via Telegram are scams.
He noted that numerous individuals have been duped, leading to significant financial losses for all parties involved.
“I can confidently say that all these investments are scams. Any investment offered through Telegram is a scam.
“I have repeatedly highlighted, especially regarding Telegram, where there are dozens or even hundreds of groups luring people into investment scams,” he said during a press conference today, reported NST.
Ramli agreed with Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil’s statement that traditional crimes are increasingly shifting to cyberspace, including social media platforms.
“I strongly agree with Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil’s statement that online crime is a major concern and that traditional crimes are increasingly ‘migrating’ to cyberspace, including social media.
“We frequently highlight that losses from scams are rising each year, and the money involved is substantial.
“I also continually emphasise to the public not to trust any investment offers through social media, yet many are still deceived and end up making investments that ultimately result in significant losses for everyone involved,” he said.
Yesterday Fahmi said that cybercrimes have increased as traditional crimes have increasingly shifted to cyberspace.
