We never donate to schools, says Heineken Malaysia

Heineken Malaysia has clarified that it does not make any donations to schools.

Tiger Beer participation in the recent Chinese Education Charity Concert (CECC) at SJK(C) Tche Min in Sungai Pelek, Sepang was solely to arrange performances by local artists.

“The Chinese Education Charity Concert (CECC) has been around for 30 years. Its mission is to be a platform to help the community raise funds to upgrade facilities at Chinese schools in need.

“Until today, RM413 million has been contributed by the local community through CECC, with no donations from our beer brand to schools,” Henieken Malaysia said.

The company explained that the platform’s organizers had meticulously ensured that all programs and activities were conducted with respect for local sensitivities and in full compliance with regulations.

Heineken is the company that produces Tiger Beer.

The controversy began when Pas criticized Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Aiman Athirah Sabu for accepting a mock cheque with Tiger Beer’s logo for RM3 million at a fundraiser for SJK(C) Tche Min.

On July 22, the education ministry announced it was investigating the incident and reminded schools to follow guidelines that ban donations from sources like gambling, tobacco, drugs, and alcohol sales.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek later said the guideline would not be reviewed nor would the ministry grant exceptions to any schools including vernacular schools.
