Four kidnapping suspects released on bail

Four suspects that had been remanded over the kidnapping of six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui incident were released today, said Johor police chief M. Kumar.

“The four-day remand period for the suspects, aged between 28 and 55, ended today.

“Their remand was also not extended,” he said, reported Malay Mail.

Four of the suspects that were released today are aged between 28 and 55, the fifth suspect not released today is 31 years old.

It is reported that the four suspects were released from the lock-up at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters this morning.

Johor police chief had previously stated that the four suspects would be granted bail unless new developments warranted an extension of their remand.

On July 20, Leo was reported missing at 8:30 pm while attending the Bon Odori festival at Eco Galleria shopping centre in Iskandar Puteri.

In connection with her disappearance, police initially detained three suspects—two men and one woman—in the Gelang Patah area at 1:30 pm on Monday for questioning.

The following day, another female suspect was apprehended at 12:15 am.

On July 23, Albertine was safely rescued from a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor, roughly 370 kilometres from her last known location.

The 31-year-old suspect was arrested at 4:45 am on Tuesday in the same budget hotel Albertine was rescued from.

He remains in custody and is still under remand.
