DAP leads in female representation in PH
The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Wanita chief Teo Nie Ching said DAP has the highest proportion of female representatives in Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“DAP now has the highest proportion of female representatives among the parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH), with 10 out of 40 Members of Parliament being women, making up 25% of the total,” she said, adding that it is feasible for the DAP to become the first party in the country with 30% female representation.
Outside PH, DAP has the second-highest proportion of female representatives after Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Teo said, reported Sin Chew Daily.
In PBB, 4 out of 14 MPs are women, making up 28.57% of the total, female representation in other parties is relatively low, she said.
She also said that for Perikatan Nasional (PN), the Pas has only 5 female MPs out of 43, representing 11.62% of the total, while Bersatu has even fewer, with just 1 female MP out of 31, making up 3.22%.
She added that DAP should be proud of its performance in female representation but also reminded female members to step up and seize opportunities to hold decision-making positions at all levels.
She added that it is important to have a list of female candidates ready whenever party leaders request it.
“When party leaders challenge us to submit a list of female candidates, we must always be prepared with that list and demonstrate that the candidates are capable,” she said.
Recently DAP Wanita has launched the “Her Lead” program to nurture more future female leaders for the party.
