Dictatorial government? Pasir Gudang MP lambasts Ambiga

Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim lambasted former Malaysian Bar president Ambiga Sreenivasan for calling the government a dictatorship.

“I want to debunk the accusation by Ambiga because it is wrong.

“Accusing the government of being a dictatorship is too much and unfair.

“I have been in politics since a young age since my graduate years to now championing democracy and freedom of expression deny that Anwar Ibrahim leads is dictatorial.”

Former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan took the government to task for introducing licensing requirement for social media platforms.

She termed the move as one that comes from a dictatorship.

Hassan compared the actions of previous government to the present government to illustrate his point.

“How can this government be dictatorial when it never suspend the parliament by declaring Emergency as was done by the previous Perikatan Nasional government?

He said this in reference to the action of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He also debunked Ambiga’s accusation by presenting how freedom of expression was used in debating reports openly in parliament.

“How can the Anwar led government be dictatorial when the Suhakam report was debated? (Wasn’t) the Auditor General report and the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was debated openly in the parliament?

“How can the current federal government be a dictator when just three weeks ago, a federal government party member lost badly in the Sungai Bakap by-election?

“Did the dictatorial government allow its party candidate to lose badly as witnessed in the Sungai Bakap and Kemaman by elections?

“Please Ambiga, criticise government on its weakness but it is too much to accuse it of being dictatorial.
