Former Penang exco Phee Boon Poh receives care after cardiac arrest

After suffering a cardiac arrest last night, former Penang exco Datuk Seri Phee Boon Poh, 72, is now receiving care at a private hospital, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow stated that he learned about the incident from Phee’s daughter, Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Syn Tze.

“I received a message from Syn Tze at about 11.45pm yesterday (Aug 1), informing me that her father had several episodes of cardiac arrest.

“He is now receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the private hospital. Doctors are doing their best to identify the cause of the cardiac arrest.

“I was also informed that Datuk Seri Phee regained consciousness this morning,” Chow said at SP Arena in Seberang Jaya, Penang this morning.

He was present to inaugurate the state-level National Month celebration and the ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang’ campaign.

Chow encouraged the public to pray for Phee’s prompt and full recovery.

“So, I urge everyone to remain calm and pray for Datuk Seri Boon Poh’s swift recovery,” Chow said.

Syn Tze said that the family is still waiting for a detailed examination of Boon Poh to determine the cause of his sudden collapse.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene within five minutes after receiving my call and immediately provided emergency care before rushing my father to the hospital,” she said, reported Kwong Wah Daily.

Boon Poh served as Penang exco from 2008 to 2023.

He was the Sungai Puyu assemblyman from 2004 until 2023.
