MCA can rebuild strength without leaving BN, says Chua

MCA can still regain its strength and does not need to consider leaving Barisan Nasional (BN), said MCA Kedah state liaison committee chairman Chua Thiong Gee.

“Can MCA really not recover within the BN framework?

“While we are currently at a disadvantage, we are still operating under BN’s mechanism,” he said, reported China Press.

He said that although MCA currently holds a weaker position within BN, it should not hastily exit BN or the unity government.

He said political ups and downs are common, and since BN is still operational and not dismantled, MCA still has a chance to recover.

“We need time to observe the situation carefully,” he added, adding that they can’t simply leave BN.

“Therefore, we cannot just leave,” he said.

Chua reaffirmed the party’s commitment to stay in BN which indirectly mocked Gerakan for switching sides in 2018.

His mocking of Gerakan came in the wake of the latter party having a major issue with Pas.

Gerakan left BN after BN lost in the 2018 general election.

Just recently Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong said that the party might consider exiting Perikatan Nasional (PN) if it must submit to conservative and unreasonable demands from certain parties.

PAS leaders, such as election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and vice-president Datuk Amar Abdullah, swiftly suggested Gerakan is free to leave if the party decided to do so.
