Four survivors rescued, 344 dead
Four members of a family were found stranded three days after the landslide that hit Mundakkai, near Chooralmala, Wayanad in Kerala, India.
This development has raised some hope even as the death toll hit 344.
Rescuers searched using advanced radar system but it was eventually called off last night.
The rescued family meanwhile had been cut off from the rest of the hilly region but their survived the landslide.
It was their relatives who contacted the officials to provide coordinates for a rescue.
“The family was stuck in their house since Tuesday. They are safe and healthy, albeit traumatised,” an official said.
A total of 114 bodies of women and children have been retrieved. A total of 119 bodies have been handed over to their respective kins.
A total of 1,374 rescue personnel are continuing the search.
Yesterday the Indian Army build a bridge to speed up the rescue operation.
