Haniyeh’s death doesn’t help the ceasefire – Biden

The killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh does not help in the efforts towards a ceasefire in Gaza Strip, said US President Joe Biden.

“It doesn’t help,” said the US president to the media late Thursday when asked on whether the killing effected the chances for a ceasefire agreement, Agensi Anadolu reported.

HE also said he is having an “open discussion” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“We have a basis for a ceasefire. He needs to take action, and they need to act, now,” he said.

Israel has continued its airstrikes and incursion into Gaza since Oct 7 last year.

Around 40,000 Palestinians have died. Haniyeh died in a bomb blast in Tehran on Tuesday.
